Riverside County’s Waste Resources Department Hosts Backyard Composting & Vermicomposting Workshop on Saturday, March 7
MORENO VALLEY, CA – The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources will host a FREE Backyard Composting class and Make Your Own Worm Bin workshop for the public on Saturday, March 7.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to recycle organic materials, such as yard trimmings, as well as fruit and vegetable waste, into a dark, crumbly, and nutrient-rich soil amendment. The in-person presentation and hands-on segments of the class will teach residents how to maintain their compost bin or pile at home, which will provide rich compost to add in home gardens, houseplants, and lawns.
Residents will also learn a convenient and indoor-friendly method of breaking down food and yard waste with the assistance of RedWiggler worms, through a process known as vermicomposting. The Department’s Certified Master Composter Instructors and Volunteer Master Composters will instruct residents how to set up, build, care for, and harvest worm casting to use as a natural fertilizer!
This free class begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources’ Headquarters office located at 14310 Frederick Street, Moreno Valley, CA 92553. The class and subsequent workshop will end by 1:00 p.m. No registration or sign up is required! All walk-ins welcome! All present must be at least 14 years old.
Low-cost compost bins and worm bin kits will be available for purchase by Riverside County residents (limit three per household). Residents may purchase by cash or Visa, MasterCard, or Discover (credit card service fee will apply).
