About Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG)
Businesses and government agencies in Riverside County that generates small quantities of hazardous waste can participate in Riverside County Department of Waste Resources' Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) Program to properly dispose of its hazardous waste.
Qualifications:
Riverside County businesses and government agencies are qualified to participate if all of the following conditions are met:
- Generate less than 220 pounds (100 kilograms or about 27 gallons) of hazardous waste per month
- Generate less than 2.2 pounds (1 kilogram) per month of extremely hazardous waste (as defined by CA Code of Regulation Title 22 Section 66261.110 and Section 66261.113)
- Accumulate no more than 2,200 pounds (1,000 kilograms) of hazardous waste on-site at any one time

Step 1: Determine if you Qualify:
The business or government agency must qualify as VSQG as defined in the California Health and Safety Code, section 25218.1, and Code of Federal Regulations 40, Section 261.5
Step 2: Obtain a hazardous waste EPA ID number:
Apply for a permanent number (https://dtsc.ca.gov/permanent-state-epa-id-numbers/) or obtain a temporary number (https://tempid.dtsc.ca.gov/Default.aspx ).
Step 3: Submit an inventory sheet:
Pricing depends on the type of waste, volume and labor. Final fee will be determined at the time of collection. The VSQG Pricing is found HERE.

- Propane Tanks
- Aerosol Cans
- Automotive Fluids including Motor oil, Lubricants, Oil Filters, and Antifreeze
- Landscaping Chemicals including Pesticides, Herbicides, Fungicides, and Fertilizers
- Latex and Oil-Based Paint
- Paint-Related Materials such as Stains, Varnishes, Roofing Tar, Adhesives, and Joint Compounds
- Developer and Fixer
- Acids, Bases, Oxidizers, and Swimming Pool Chemicals
- Solvents, Flammable Solids, and Liquids
Waste may be prohibited from the program for several reasons such as its level of hazard, regulatory constraints and the program's permit may prohibit its acceptance. The following are hazardous waste not accepted by VSQG program:
- Asbestos
- Radioactive Waste
- Explosive Material
- Pharmaceutical Waste
- Site Remediation Waste
- Commercial use compressed gas cylinders
- Reactive Materials requiring Special Handling such as reactive metals ( Sodium, Potassium, or Lithium)
- All three phosphorus types: red, white and yellow
- Calcium carbide or other water reactive materials
- Ether
