Carpet
Although you can dispose of carpet and carpet padding in your trash bin, it is better to recycle it. The face fiber of carpet is the most valuable part of the carpet, and is usually made from nylon, polypropylene or polyester. The carpet backing is usually made from latex, polyvinylchloride or polypropylene.
Recycling Locations
Use the California Carpet Stewardship Program's seach tool to find a location to recycle your carpet. This map has carpet collection information for California. Enter a zip code, specify miles from that zip code, and identify the type of services needed. The map will provide a list of facilities. These facilities are certified by the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE). Visit https://carpetrecovery.org/california/ca/
