How to Become a Volunteer

2. Attend a Volunteer Orientation Training
3. Complete and pass a background check and Live Scan
4. Start volunteering!
Typical Outreach Volunteer Opportunities:
We offer many volunteer activities that help support Riverside County and our communities. Many of our activities fall into two major categories, outreach and prep.
Outreach:
- Conduct presentations and classes such as composting, vermicomposting, recycling, source reduction, green cleaning, and more! Presentations are offered virtually and in-person
- Staff information booths at various community events to promote Department programs and answer questions
- Act as a mentor for community or school gardens
Prep:
- Assist in maintaining our resource garden in preparation for community events and classes
- Build worm bins in preparation for composting and vermicomposting courses
- Set-up and tear-down during special community events such as our Kids Summer Recycle Camp

How old do I need to be to volunteer?
Volunteers must be at least 15 years old.
Why do I need to complete a background check?
Background checks help us protect your community, as we conduct events where children are present.
What days/times do you need volunteers?
Availability for volunteering is flexible! We regularly update our volunteers about the dates, times, and locations of community events and offer the opportunity to carpool with staff. For aspiring volunteers interested in prep work or gardening, our resource garden is always in need of extra hands.
